SNOWFLAKE BRAND SHORTENING
"A WHOLESOME PRODUCT"
TORONTO - MONTREAL - HULL - PETERBORO - BRANTFORD
Please note the shortened spelling of the city of Peterborough.
On the side of the tin in stamped: CANADA APPROVED EST 2D and is shown with a crown.
The only 2 bits of information I could obtain on Matthews-Blackwell Limited is that they were located at 138-158 George St in Peterborough in January 1919 and their operation in Brantford provided meat supplies for the Allied Armies in World War 1 (WWI).
Shown below is a flatbed scan showing a close up of part of the name on the front of the tin. Have also shown several other images for your viewing, including the tin open and with the lid in place.
The tin with the bale handle upright stands over 8" high and the tin itself, with the lid on, is about 5 5/8" high. The lid measures about 5" across.
The tin appears to be in a very good showing age use wear. The tin is being offered for sale as presented in the images. If you have questions please do not hesitate to ask. If you reside in Southern Ontario, Canada, the item can be viewed at my shoppe Brooks' House Antiques located in Brantford, Ontario. If you have any queries about other items I may have available please do not hesitate to ask. Shipping/handling in North America should range between $10.00 - $13.00.
