VINTAGE McCOY EAGLE COIN BANK EMIGRANT SAVING MINT

Offered for your consideration is a mid-century vintage McCoy eagle coin bank. This coin bank measures approximately seven and one half inches in height, six and one half inches across the wings and three inches in depth at the base. It weighs approximately one pound and ten ounces. The back of the coin bank is marked "Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank." Emigrant Savings Bank was founded in 1850 by 18 members of the Irish Emigrant Society and is the oldest savings bank in New York City. The coin bank is complete with its cork bottom and round metal plate. T is some minor loss of cork. Please see photos. The round metal plate is marked "Contemporary Ceramics Chatham, NJ." McCoy manufactured the bank for them mid-century. This coin bank is illustrated on page 235 of the 1980 hardcover book titled The Collectors Encyclopedia of McCoy Pottery by Sharon and Bob Huxford. This coin bank is in mint condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing. I have not seen this coloration of black to gray, but only the brown to tan variety being sold. The coloring is soft and lovely. We have a total of 4 eagle banks being offered in separate auctions this week. Each makes a spectacular statement as a bank, but as a pair they would be very attractive on a mantel or in a shelving display! They were owned by a gentleman who recently died in his 90s, who was the principal archivist for Central Savings Bank in Manhattan from 1931 to 1974. Thank you for your interest.
