Vintage Mighty Tonka 24 Hour Service Tow Truck

18" long from back to front 11" high from bottom of wheels to top of boom 7 1/4" Wide Back before they were made of plastic, foam, and faerie dust a toy could stand up to the destructive force of a dozen little boys. This truck features a pretty blue color with a white cab and double booms. The truck is in good condition, though there is some rusting and scratching. The "24 Hour Service" is scratched out a little on the left side. As well as the back "Caution" decal. There's a chunk taken out of the front grill and the hook and wire is missing from the left side boom. Meaning "great" in the Sioux tongue, Tonka was started in Mound, Minnesota by the Mound Metalcraft Company in 1947. Its beginnings were humble with a staff comprised of a whopping six people in the basement of a modest schoolhouse. Tonka designed two trucks in its first year, a steam shovel and a crane. Today Tonka is still popular among toy companies, building toys for kids that boast high durablility and high play value.
