Vintage Micro-Mosaic Millefiori Long Pin Beautifully designed with intricate millefiori, this long pin is a wonderful example of micro-mosaic from Italy. It is exquisitely designed with 4 circles of white flowers, each connected by colorful turquoise, green and red tiles. This is surrounded by white tiles and each end has minute red and white tiles. It is edged in a delicate rope design. It has a "c" pin back that is secure. Measures 1/4" x 2 3/4" long. This is very pretty piece. Makes a beautiful holiday gift. Millefiori is a glasswork technique which produces distinctive decorative patterns on glassware.The term millefiori is a combination of the Italian words "mille" (thousand) and "fiori" (flowers). A. Pellatt (in his book "Curiosities of Glass Making") was the first to use the term "millefiori", which appeared in the Oxford Dictionary in 1849. The beads were called mosaic beads before that time.
