MINIATURE BEER STEIN MEERSCHAUM PIPE GERMAN INSCRIPTION
This unusual little stein is what I think is the bowl to a pipe, the pipe stem is missing. It measures only 1 1/2" tall, the bottom diameter is 3/4". It is fitted with a very finely made brass lid with an embossed goat's head figure on the top of the lid, a working and intact brass hinge and brass handle. I don't think it has ever been smoked and was meant to be a novelty type thing. The inscription is in script, so I'm not sure of the words and letters, I think it reads: " Wo Du horst hohe Schwure Steht Luge vor der Thure" at the bottom center looks like the number 6 with a design around it. It was very hard to photograph because it's so small. The lettering is a blue color. When looking at the surface with a magnifying glass t are alot of scratches to the surface and one little missing spot around the bottom rim of the stein about the size of a pin tip. No other missing pieces or repairs. The hole for the pipe stem is 1/4" in diameter. I am not really certain as to the age of this item but would estimate it to be at least 75 years old, maybe much more.
