vintage Mission Bell GE southern california HUGE 25x23" it's been residing in the back yard of a house in Dana Point for the past 20 or 30 years. It used to hang from a pole in Mission Viejo (Mission Viejo got its name because you could see Mission San Juan Capistrano from the hills a couple hundred years ago) on a major street. Got blown down, or run over in the middle of the night and was laying on the ground when it found it's way to Dana Point. It was in the back yard so long that a tree began growing through the top (the tree trunk went up about 25 feet when it was chopped down) and the force of the tree trunk has given this mission bell a crack frin the center outward. The bell was made by GE of a lightweight heavy gauge aluminum, it does not ring, it is the housing for a street light. It looks like it's too big and too heavy to move, and you get fooled when you go to pick it up and it only weighs 27 pounds. The original mission bells, back in the 1700s, marked the path along el camino real (the king's highway) from one mission to the next.
