Pictured below is a fine pair of vintage modernist cufflinks in sterling silver designed by Antonio Pineda, Taxco, Mexico, circa ‘50s. The cufflinks feature an abstract sculptural design with curvy, dimensional fronts – taller on the outside edges and tapering down to the opposite side – with cut-out abstracted archer figures through which you can see the darkened background. The backs are rigidly mounted. This is a sizeable, substantial pair; the fronts measure about 1 3/8” long. They are in good used vintage condition, with some surface signs of age and wear, some darkened patina, but no damage or detractors. The cufflinks are signed on the backs, one with impressed marks, ‘970, ANTONIO [crown hallmark],’ and the other, ‘eagle mark 3, VJ, TAXCO MEXICO.’ They’re a very mod pair, of excellent quality and craftsmanship, and a fine example from this renowned designer.
