VINTAGE MOVIE LOBBY STANDEE

33" x 59"

Standees were used to display movie advertisements in the lobby of a theatre. The early ones had string attachments on the reverse that could be tied to a pole. They folded in half. Many were die-cut. The artwork was sometimes different from the posters for the film. The old standees are hard to find now. National Screen Service either rented or provided them to the theatres, and the theatres were required to return them after the movie had played. After the film's distribution had run it's course, National Screen Service destroyed them.

The Son Of Dr. Jekyll

1951

NSS 51 / 502

Edward Jekyll, ignorant of how his father had brought forth death and destruction with his experiments, is pursuing a chemist career despite the fact that he has been discharged from school for his unorthodox experimentations. When the time comes for his father's estate, which had been put in trust, Edward first learns of his father's actions and rather than ignore the matter, sets out to prove that human personality can be changed by certain chemical stimulations. But he hasn't reckoned on Dr. Curtis Lanyon, a prominent doctor and close friend of the family. Lanyon wants to get his hands on the estate and resorts to murder and frame-ups to make Edward appear to be as insane as his father. (source: IMDb)

NO RESERVE

Condition: Very Good. Minor yellowing of white areas. A little bit of surface paper curl along the bottom edge which is common on older standees. Strings are intact. Minor creasing along fold edge. T is a tear about 9" long, on the right edge on the hairline of the actor's picture. It is barely noticeable, and very clean. This is a great looking standee!

This standee looks fantastic, and would be easily restored for the serious collector, or enjoyed as is. It is a wonderful collectable of vintage movie art.

Please see all the photos.

A NOTE ON SHIPPING: I have sold quite a few of these on The United States Post Office will not take them because they are "oversized". They charge a HUGE penalty if sent that way. I can only ship these via UPS Ground within the US for the cheapest rate. In GENERAL, if you are a bidder within the contenential US, the packaging and shipping costs will be between $37-$60. Insurance is extra based on the final value. International UPS rates for these are very high. The last one I sent to the U.K. was over $140 for shipping. IF YOU ARE AN INTERNATIONAL BIDDER, please don't ask me for shipping quotes to your country. I get hundreds of those, and can't take the time to give out quotes all day. Just remember it will be expensive, and if you win the item, I will have to take it to UPS with your exact address to determine the actual cost to you. I will email you and give you the cost so you can make your payment to me.

I STRONGLY RECOMMEND you purchase insurance. I have only had ONE not arrive in great condition, but the one that was damaged was sold for over $700, and the guy didn't purchase insurance...

I make NOTHING on shipping and handling. My regular customers know I ALWAYS refund any difference on these charges, so if the shipping calculator in the listing is off, or you overpay by ANY amount, you will get a full refund for your overpayment on the day your standee ships. Of course, I have to charge you what UPS charges me for the packing fee. The box has to be custom fitted and taped by them.

I hope this explains why the shipping charges for this standee may seem high to you.

to see and bid on more standees I have up for auction this week!

NO RETURNS . These ORIGINAL standees were in service, and were displayed in various theatres. They have varying degrees of wear and are not offered in "mint" condition unless noted. They are sold "as is" and in general good condition for their age and useage. Scarce and not reproductions. No rights granted or implied with the sale.
