Come back in time with me if you will; The year is 1964 ; the Beatles have vaulted to the number one spot on the U.S. charts with I Want to Hold Your Hand and have landed at JFK International Airport for their first American tour and an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show . The Ford Mustang is introduced, Cassius Clay defeats Sonny Liston, My Fair Lady wins the Oscars for best picture and President Johnson signs the Civil Rights Act. Meanwhile the talented artists at Walt Disney Studios are busy working on an animated version of Rudyard Kiplingâe(tm)s Jungle Book stories in what will turn out to be the last animated feature that Walt Disney would supervise. Although the feature film would not be released until 1967 , Walt Disney Productions licensed Enesco of Japan exclusive rights to produce various products relating to the upcoming film. Among these is the offering I present to you. Mowgli is the adorable "Man-Wolf" just as you remember him. He stands almost 5" tall and his base is 2" wide. He has his original foil MOWLGLI sticker between his feet as well as his original Enesco sticker next to his original rubber stopper and MCMLXIV 1964 Walt Disney Productions stamp. His mane of black hair has 2 holes in the back for dispensing pepper (though he was never used for that purpose). With his arms folded across his chest and open mouth between rosy cheeks he seems to strike a somewhat defiant pose. The Disney and Enesco artists really combined for a winning collaboration as they created what has become the lasting image of Mowgli as we have come to know him. Mowgli's little elephant friend sits on its own original Disney stamp and original rubber stopper and is 3 3/4" tall and also 2" wide at the base. He/She has grayish blue skin, brown hair and feet, light pink ears and rosy mouth and cheeks. The expression of innocent joy was really captured in this piece and you can't help but admire the Artists from both studios who were able to capture and create that emotion. Beyond minor manufacturing imperfections t no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs on this nostalgic set of Salt and Pepper Shakers that evoke a simpler and happier time for the United States and the World. A wonderful addition to any collection!!! I will ship within three business days of payment clearing via USPS Priority Mail ( US shipments only). Insurance on your shipment is optional (highly recommended) for $2.50. International shipments need to contact me via email for shipping, handling and insurance costs.
