Can you hear the rattle of crushed ice and feel the frosty metal as you anticipate a tuxedo clad gentleman pouring a chilled Dry Martini into your crystal glass? This vintage Napier cocktail shaker is the original, classic design upon which modern reproductions are based. Made of silverplate, a detachable cap doubles as a jigger, and when removed reveals a strainer through which the finished cocktail is poured. The removable lid assembly allows for all of the ingredients to be placed in the shaker. A most ingenious design allows the bartender to merely move a pointer to the desired cocktail, and all of the required components are highlighted in cut-out windows around the circumference of the shaker. Cocktails featured offer a glimpse into an era of sophistication: Alexander Bacardi Between the Sheets Bronx Clover Club Dry Martini Dubonnet Gin Rickey Manhattan Old Fashioned Orange Blossom Palm Beach Side Car Tom Collins Whisky SourAlso included in this lot is a silverplate Napier jigger with attached long handled spoon and bottle opener. Both items are from the estate of a well-connected family familiar with 1930's Hollywood movie royalty.Markings on the bottom of the cocktail shaker include NAPIER and U.S. AND FOREIGN PATENTS PENDING Markings on the handle of the spoon include PAT. APPLIED FOR NAPIER Both items show evidence of being used for many, many occasions! T are several concave dents on the bottom of the shaker, perhaps from the forceful shaking of ice. A few well earned dings grace the top lid assembly. The interior of the shaker is shiny and intact. The lettering of each cocktail and respective ingredients shows traces of the original red. The movable outer assembly has a few dents on the bottom edge. When replacing the top lid assembly, it is necessary to rotate it to just the right spot, as the shaker is slightly out of round. The metal has a 1 inch split on the bottom seam of the outer assembly. The silverplate is worn through to the base metal in several spots, and shows considerable wear overall. The added jigger is heavily dented, almost as if the bartender furiously whacked at a block of ice in desperation! T is a small area of roughness on the hook end of the bottle opener. The cocktail shaker measures 10 1/2 inches in height and 4 inches at the widest diameter. The jigger and spoon measures 9 inches in height and the diameter of the base is 1 3/4 inches.Antico is our antiques and collectibles business, first established in 1989.
