The quilled box we are listing was purchased in Ontario over 25 years ago. It measures 2 5/8 inches tall and over 4 1/4 inches in diameter. This is a beautiful box, completely covered with porcupine quills with a 6-petal flower decoration on the top. The shading of the natural quill is all the color needed to accentuate the design save a wonderful red-dyed center. The birch bark has a toasty old color both inside and out, and the fragrance when you lift the lid is magnificent because the top is rimmed with sweet grass sewed on with green button thread. This is a lovely box which shows a minor bit of damage on the bottom w the quills have been bent over the birchbark frame and in one spot w the quills stitch into the bark along the side of the lid. We will photograph these carefully so that you can decide for yourself whether this is serious enough to preclude your bidding. We thought the design of this piece was much too nice to pass up.
