NIPPON OCTAGONAL EGYPTIAN MOTIF TEA TILE/TRIVET:
This is a very unusual piece. Instead of the ordinary (but lovely) florals on most tea tiles, this 6-1/2" tile features head and shoulders of an Egyptian woman. She has an elaborate headpiece, and an elaborate collar. Her eyes are heavily made up, and t is even a fine string-tie visible that must be keeping the headdress in place. The muted brown behind her is a little paler on the right side. Looking closely, I don't see scratches that might indicate that paint was worn off with use - rather it might have been painted that way intentionally, as it gives the impression that she faces the sun. (Come to think of it - I suppose "she" could be a "he".....) This is not a reproduction. My mother amassed quite a tea tile collection over the years - this is one of hers. It is marked with the green Nippon mark, wreath with an "M" inside. This tile is in great condition, as though never used. T is, of course, just a bit of "shelf wear" visible on the bottom edges (or maybe I should say "wall wear", as that's w it hung), but no chips, cracks, crazing or other damage. The colors are vibrant and rather stunning! TERMS OF SALE: Since most of what we offer is antique or collectible, we do not have more for replacement.
