1972 Richard Nixon v. George McGovern chess set from LRH. It is in the original box (box in very good condition with minor wear issues on bottom and one side of lid w it was slid back and forth on shelf). The original sponge foam packing is in place and in excellent condition with cutouts for each piece. The board is cardboard and folds in half and is in excellent condition. It is extra large at a little over 21" by 24". The pieces are made of heavy molded plastic. The kings are 7", queens 6 1/2", bishops, knights and rooks all 5", pawns are 4". The Democrats are silver, the Republicans are gold (or bronze depending on your point of view). The kings are Nixon and McGovern, of course, and the queens (yes, the queens) are Muskie and Agnew. Among the featured characters are Ted Kennedy and John Mitchell. The pawns are donkeys and elephants. Part of the fun is figuring out the identities. It is art as well as a game and could be used as a table decoration/conversation piece. The title on the box says "The Contemporary Game, Chess, '72, in old fashioned computer type, futuristic for the early 70's. It is in good enough condition for gift giving. I will let potential buyers try and determine who the other figures are in the pictures provided. Not all are shown due to space restrictions. It is a complete set.Sold as is, no guarantees, no read more
