Estate Auction. Over the next few weeks I will be listing numerous items acquired from the estate of Ms. B. The bulk of items to be auctioned were acquired by Ms. B while she worked in and around Yokahama Japan. Ms. B was 23 years old in 1952 when she found her way (alone), from the mid west to Seattle w she boarded a troop transport for her new job as a stenographer (GS-3) for the United States Military. She was part of the Japan Tour, the wave of civilian contract workers who lived, worked and traveled extensively throughout Japan during reconstruction (occupied Japan). Ms B. lived in Japan through December 1954. Ms. B. was a free spirt with a love for travel and adventure, and between 1952 and 1954 Japan was for her to discover. In addition to her work as an accomplished stenographer (incredibly detailed person), Ms. B. was an avid photographer and writer. During her time in Japan, Ms. B. never missed the opportunity to take pictures. As a result, I have, from this estate, boxes of 35mm slides, organized and labled, a still life documentary of Japan in the early 1950's. One of my favorite photo's is a picture of a very confident Ms. B. with her trusty Argus slung over her shoulder. (yes, I have that camera).
