Vintage NOS Original 1950s Auto Car Wax Polish Tin Can Up for auction is a classic, retro, 1950s automobile wax and polish can. Original NOS "New Old Stock" Glitter Glaze 16 Oz. Super Polish liquid automobile cleaner advertising tin.Bright three-color litho graphics shine printed over a reflective can. Some pictures may appear to show the stars reflecting off-color, but are shiny bright metal. Picture on front shows the good car fairy/princess using her magic wand to make the 50s car glitter. Automobile image appears to be circa 1957 looking at the front end and fins. Also graphics on the side panel are of 1950s home appliances.Can was made in the USA by industry giant American Can Company, or CANCO, with the Manufacturer's Printing Code 68-A, which I believe to be the Chicago plant. Can measures 6 ¼" tall, by 4"wide, and 1 ¾" deep. Obviously never filled, inside is new, as is the metal cap with seal.May have some very, very minor shelf wear due to age, but are in great shape.I take one of these with me to car shows. I've put some nice product from Meguirs in the can, and get a lot of comments using the Ol' Glitter Glaze.... it works so well! Might make a neat gift for that car nut, or car club door prize also...Back panel reads" Glitter Products, Inc., P.O. Box 5157, Grosse Pointe Farms 36, Mich.Glitter Glaze has an interesting history. Back in the 50s, the Federal Trade Commission investigated the claims of the company boasting the properties of its product's Snake Oil advertising. 's a little data I found: June/July 1953 - 1614 FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION DECISION'S 8409. Automobile Polish—Durability, Protective Qualities, Composition, etc.—Glitter Products, Inc., a Michigan corporation, with its place of business located at Detroit, Mich., engaged in the business of offering for sale and selling in commerce, an automobile polish designated "Glitter Super Glaze," entered into an agreement that in connection with the offering for sale, sale and distribution of that product or of any other similar product, it will cease and desist from representing, directly or by implication, in its advertising : (1) That the application of such product to an automobile produces a hard, lasting, glasslike finish or a finish which will last twice as long as finishes produced with the use of other polishes or longer than is in fact true ; (2) That use of the product will restore the original color of an automobile ; (3) That such product will protect or save the finish of any automobile from fading in sunlight or from grit or dirt; (4) That such product contains no oil or grease ; (5) That such product is not a polish.
