If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at . The photo of the subway car is of an R22, #7328. These cars were painted in many different colors but ended their lives as the beloved "Red Birds." Part of the "1" wore out from use and there was a big hole. I took some leftover, blank, period material and taped it in place from behind with gaffer tape. If you choose, you can remove it easily with care. But we thought this was the right thing to do to keep the tear from getting worse. Make an offer if you're interested - every one will be carefully considered! This is an Antique R 22 Front route Roll sign section with: 1 - BROADWAY 2 - 7'AV-BRONX This sign is made of a cloth-like material called Vellum. It measures 14x30 inches. This sign came from the R-22 cars of the IRT subway, which were built in 1957-58 by the St. Louis Car Company. These trains primarily served on the 1 and 2 Lines. There were 450 cars built, numbered 7300-7749. The last of them were retired from passenger service in 1987. Each car had two "signboxes" in each end of the car. Each signbox housed a full rollsign. The one on the left displayed the route, while the one on the right displayed the destination. The R22 in the photo shows the 2 "7'AV-BRONX" route. Please carefully review the photos. Great for bar or restaurant, dorm room, den, etc. Makes read more
