Here is a vintage machinist tool box up for auction. The box has been refinished and has new felt in each drawer. It is solid oak and is really nice. Much nicer, softer brown/yellow, than the pictures.....florescent lighting is terrible for true colors. I am not sure of the mfg. I thought it was Gerstner but it could also be a Star Chicago box....there was no label when I got it. The drawers do have metal rails to open and close on. The size of the box is 20"W x 9"D x 12 3/4" H . There are 8 drawers. Approx size of the drawers are : 4 are 8-3/4 x 6 3/4 x 3/4 , 1 is 8 1/4 x 6 3/4 x 2 The larger drawers all run 17 3/4 wide x 6 3/4 deep and there is one that is 1" tall one 2" and one 3" tall. I believe one of the larger drawers (1" tall one) has a replacement front because the wood grain is a bit different and the front seems about a quarter inch smaller than the others. There is no handle or locking front to the tool box. A leather handle can be purchased off eBay if one is needed.
I listed this item in models because that is what I use mine for. I have 2 others I use to hold all my modeling supplies and they work out just great. I don't have a large area to do the building so the tool boxes actually hold all my bottle paints. brushes, Xacto stuff and even my Dremel tool fits in the bottom drawer. I keep all my photo etched parts in one drawer and when I need them, I know exactly where to find them. They really work out great. I have also seen these listed and used as jewerly boxes.
