This is an Olive Drab colored military SHOOTING JACKET from the US Marine Corps. I assume this is a size 40, I will give measurements below. This is NOT herringbone twill, so this came just AFTER world war two. They started using the regular OD Green Twill after WWII, and that's what you have This is stenciled on the back with : "HQBNMTU 1ST MAR DIV" Which I take to mean the HeadQuarters Battalion Marksmanship Training Unit of the First Marine Division. (T was a USMC Marksmanship Training Unit in Quantico, Virginia, but I am not sure w the 1st Marines are bases....Camp Pendleton?) This has been used, but not abused. T is some fading of the elbow pads and the shoulder recoil pad, and those areas are lighter, but this jacket has no holes or tears or mothing. This is "salty" in all the right ways. This has been used for shooting, probably for shooting competitions. (I cannot see them stenciling this on the back of all their shooting coats for their new recruits at Camp Pendleton or Camp LaJeune). This is not named to a marine, just to the unit. This has been used, and the buttons are facing the shooter. This means that when you are lying prone at the rifle range, your buttons don't drag on the ground. A nice personalized touch. I wonder if all the USMC shooting teams (or all the US Marines?) did this modification. Measurements! I layed it out flat and buttoned it. The widest point at the chest, across the chest from armpit to armpit, was 22.5 inches. That's 45 inches around at the WIDEST! This is most likely a couple sizes smaller than that. At the lowere edge of the pocket, buttoned up and measured across, it was 20 inches so 40 inches around the body at that point. THAT'S WHY I THINK THIS IS A SIZE 40! I measured it from top to bottom, collar to skirt, and it was 26 inches. From the shoulder seam to the cuff was 21 inches. Please lay out your own snug fitting shooting jacket and button it up and lay it flat, and compare sizes. A lot of these jackets were made by 10-X of Des Moines, but this is not marked "10X," so maybe not. A nice, vintage, U.S.M.C. shooting jacket with a lot of history, and a lot of life left in it! Great for the M-1 Garand or M1 Carbine, for the M-14 or the M-16! Lord knows what other long range sniper rifles and weapons the US Marines used. The Remingtons and Winchesters, the 40X and the Model 70, the M1903 Springfield and 1903A4 Sniper Rifles with the long-range Unertl scopes, etc. This vintage marksman's jacket would be fine to use, or to display with your M14! Please see the pictures. Please ask any questions before you bid. I want you to be happy with this, but all sales are final. Thank you to our veterans!
