TWO Swinnertons, Olde Alton Ware, Blue and White Transfer Ware Tureens Thank you for looking at my listing. I am delighted to offer this marvellous and surprisingly fantastic condition tureen or serving dish with lid. As you can see from the photograph is it displaying the Japanese garden scene with flying birds and wonderful trees, waters and bridges. The lid has a round button handle and fits comfortable on the main dish which again has pagodas and sailing boats on the water and shows all the typical archetypal Japanese images. You might be surprised to know that these Japanese images show the Japanese Gardens at Alton Towers!!! as they were many moons ago. The main dish has a wide lip which extend to two handles. The underside is plain white. The base shows the mark (very smudgy) Olde Alton Ware, England with a nice little village scene as its logo. Olde Alton Ware is the pattern made by Swinnerton which boomed from 1920s to 1950s. It is hard to date this piece but it is likely to be earlier rather than later. From handle to handle it is about 24cm diameter and it is about 10.5-11cm high with the lid on It is hard to find any fault other than a tiny firing fault in the inner rim I will pack this very very well and send it to you promptly after you pay.
