An American trumpet that was made by F E Olds in Fullerton California ! A NICE trumpet with original lacquer that is in GREAT shape!!! This is an outstanding trumpet and a top-quality instrument by F E Olds in Fullerton California . Olds was long known for his fantastic designs and great playing instruments. The Ambassador has long been thought of as the best student trumpet ever made. Many pro players still use them as back up horns. They are still sought by many comeback players since they play so well. The serial number is 735674, which should date the horn to mid 1970. The lacquer is in great shape and has just a few small wear marks. The best thing about this horn is the great tone and intonation it has. The logo on the horn says: OLDS Ambassador Fullerton Calif. It has a few very small body dings and some remnants of dents on the bell tube and slides. I played this horn for a short time before I decided to let someone have it that will play it daily. The horn was chem. cleaned and then the lacquer was polished. I did the dent work and then put new corks and felts in and re-assembled the horn. It really is a classic beauty that will play! I have played it and it has a wonderful clear tone, and a nice mellow sound (Melanie said I sound great on this horn, lol, as always). It plays free and easy in all registers. It plays full and in tune from the bottom of the staff to the top. In my opinion it plays as well as any modern intermediate trumpet and better than some pro models! It's in excellent mechanical condition - all the tuning slides work smoothly, including the first and third which are usually frozen and require some kind of repair. The horn has NO missing slide pulls (rare in a used horn). The valves work freely and spring back into place with ease and have new felts and corks in them. The valves have very light wear and they work very smooth! The horn plays very full all the way into peddle tones. There are NO dents in any of the tubing and as we said earlier, just a few small dings and some very small ripples from removal over the years. I have tried to capture the small dings and imperfections in the pictures (look at the bell tube and slides since that is where almost all of them are). I really LOVE the old Olds sound and it can really play! The horn has new spit valve corks and springs. The third valve slide has new “O” rings to quiet it when using the ring. The trumpet comes with the original Olds 7C mouthpiece. The mouthpiece has some light plating wear on the shank, but the rim and cup are still in great shape. I am also including the original Olds wood hard case. The case has some very light wear but still works and looks almost new. The outside is brown with dark brown bands and the inside is dark rust colored plush. This is your chance - why spend upwards of $900 for a trumpet (Yamaha has the YTR 23XX student model now that goes for $900+) when you can pick this up for a lot less than that?
