Hi. Thanks for checking out my auction for this vintage, original Tubby's Submarine electric light-up advertising sign. We picked this up at an estate sale a few years back and the people said it came from their grandfather's Tubby Submarine Shop in Detroit which he owned for 25 years and when this shop closed they sold everything except this sign and just stored it for years until years later when the remainder of the estate was sold. Since we got the sign it has been stored in our garage and we kind of forgot about it, but now it has resurfaced and we could use the space it occupies. It is large and measures approximately 42" length of sub and 34" high top to bottom of Tubby holding sub. The light-up sign works, we tested it by placing ends of electric wires into outlet. It needs some restoring. We were going to place a new plug, paint the outside metal on the back and replace the missing screws in the back; but we did not get around to it. Sign dates we believe from approximately 1972 and really considering this sign's age of about 40 years and the fact that it was an outdoor advertisement through cold Michigan weather through the years, it is really very nice. The graphics on the front are great and pretty clean. The unit in the back which holds mechanism for lighting sign could use more cleaning and a paint job and the back of the sign could use some fresh replacement bolts. This sign is large and heavy. We like to travel, have a van and a truck, and could arrange to deliver the sign at buyer's cost within a few hundred miles or could arrange for local pickup. Please email any questions or comments.
