TRUE ESTATE SALE FIND!ORIGINAL HOMER LAUGHLIN VINTAGE FIESTA WARECIRCA LATE 1930's-1943 NO. 4 THROUGH 7 MIXING BOWLS OR NESTING BOWLSThe original Fiestaware nesting bowls were only in production for 7 years. They are numbered 1-7 on the bottoms.OVERALL, THESE BOWLS ARE IN GREAT CONDITION. There are no chips on any of the bowls and they are all very glossy. All have the Fiesta logo embossed on the bottom. The red bowl has 3 hairlines, but the rest of the bowls are nearly perfect. I have thoroughly examined each bowl to point out any other flaws - most are extremely minor and original to the manufacturing, but I am mentioning them out of full disclosure. This is a detailed description of each bowl: #4 Green Bowl : There are some typical manufacturing flaws like a couple of tiny faint spots where the glaze is lighter and sand grits that show up as a few tiny specks on the rim. Some light un-eveness to the glaze. The inside shows a few very minor scuffs, some light gray use marks at the bottom, nothing major. Pinhead nick on inside of top rim and base, barely visible to the naked eye. Overall, a gorgeous bowl, nearly perfect. #5 Red Bowl: There are 2 hairlines at the top. One (which is about 1 1/2") goes partially through to the other side about 1 /2"; the other does not (visible on the outside only, about a 1/2". (see photo 8.) Also, at the base of the bowl, there is a hairline that is barely visible on the outside but it is there nonetheless (photo 9.) It's difficult to know if it goes through, but I don't think so. There is some light crazing on the interior bottom, but the hairline sits up slightly higher than any crazing inside. I tested the bowl by filling with water and leaving for an extended period of time and there is no leakage. In normal lighting, the hairlines are barely noticeable. I had to angle the camera and find suitable lighting to pick them up for photo purposes. Also, because of this, I could not quite capture the color, which some refer to as "radioactive red." In real life, it is more like a deep orangey-red. (You probably already know this if you are reading this listing!) There are some faint gray usage marks/scuffs inside, almost impossible to capture in photos because of the red color. There is a bit of un-eveness to the glaze on the interior original to manufacture. There are a couple of teeny scuffs and one minor scratch on the exterior. The base shows some shelf wear, nothing major.Despite this, the bowl as a whole still displays beautifully and is in better condition than most recent pottery you will find. #6 Cobalt Blue Bowl: Some light scuffs/scratches on bottom interior. Teeny glaze skip on outside. A few light exterior scratches. Some shelf wear on base and a bit of wear/lighter glaze on outside edge of top rim. The inside bottom has rings (photo 10) which means this bowl dates to 1936-38. The bottom ring bowls are highly sought after, as you probably know, as they are the earliest bowls. The Fiesta logo on the bottom is faintly embossed, but it is present. #7 Ivory Bowl: This bowl is gorgeous and I consider it to be in mint vintage condition. The glaze has a wonderful luster. Use signs are basically none (photo 11.) Any imperfections are original to the manufacture. There are a few teeny glaze pops here and there (photo 12) and 3 or 4 sand grits in the glaze that show up as pinhead size brown specks. Base shows some shelf wear and some glaze skips. Otherwise, perfect. In and of itself, this #7 ivory bowl in this pristine condition is quite collectible and a rare find. THIS IS TRULY A GREAT SET. HARD TO FIND A SET OF ORIGINAL, VINTAGE FIESTA BOWLS IN SUCH FINE CONDITION. I have seen tons of contemporary, "younger" Fiestaware in terrible condition, and these very old bowls are pretty close to perfect THIS SET IS PROBABLY BEST SUITED FOR THE SERIOUS COLLECTOR.
