Vintage Original CREEK INDIAN Solomon McCombs Painting
Solomon McCombs brought with him from Oklahoma a strong tradition of a representational style that developed in Oklahoma during the 1920s and Santa Fe during the 1930s. The style was characterized by strong outlines, flat color application, stylized landscape elements, and decorative patterning used with frequency in narratives detailing traditional Native life.
Up for auction is an original casein on artist's board painting by the famous Creek Indian artist, SOLOMON MCCOMBS (1913-1980). The painting is titled on the back, "Mother and Child" ... signed and dated on the front, "McCombs "67" ... painting measures approx. 8 1/2 x 12 inches. With the original double mat it measures approx. 15 1/4 x 20 inches. I have the original wooden frame that it has been in since originally purchased in 1967. If you would like the frame let me know. Soloman McCombs was a world-renowned Creek painter.
