Vintage Ornate painted solid brass and stone Classical chess set, beautiful set This is a beautiful Ornate, classical chess set. Each piece is cast brass, solid and heavy. It appears that the body section of each piece is either painted brass or some type of stone. I don't know the exact age of this set, it came from an estate of an older gentleman who was a tournament chess player. It is one of the nicer chess sets I have seen. All the pieces are intact and in great condition. Each piece rests in a secure molded recess inside the case. The chess board measures 17" square and forms the top of the case. As you can see, the case is ornate wood with gold filagree accents. The set is in nice clean condition without any real chips, cracks or broken parts. There are no markings or dates on the set to determine where it was made and when. I could not find anything like it to get a referrance. My guess is that this is from Malaysia since a lot of the nicer, more ornate chess sets came from this region. If you have any questions ask before bidding.
