V intage Orvis CFO V Multiplier Fly Fishing Reel- Made in England by Hardy Bros . in the 1970's. 1.75 to 1 multiplying line retrieve by a simple handle attachment. For #7/8 line. Left hand retrieve, can easily convert to right retrieve as with all Hardy made reels. A usable #8WFF line with 100 plus yards of backing is on the reel. Weighs 7.1 oz with line and backing. Spool measures 3-1/2 inches diameter and 1-3/8 inches wide. Adjustable spring and pawl drag at back of reel. This has that famous Hardy two way, sweet sounding, audible click. An Orvis reel bag is included. The original C.F.O. reels were introduced in 1971. The initials are for Charles Frederick Orvis , the founder of Orvis. Hardy Bros. ceased manufacturing CFO's after the 1980's. The V model, especially with the multiplier was made sparingly. This reel was used for salmon in Iceland for a couple of seasons in the 1970's. There are a few dents and nicks on the rim and edges. It is in perfect working order. The reel seat is attached firmly with no wobble. The unique detachable multiplier attachment and handle weighs less than one ounce making the entire reel very light weight for its type. This is an extremely rare Original English made CFO reel.
