Up for your bidding pleasure is a Vintage Pair Of Masonic Book Ends. Symbolic Freemason Design. Quality Solid Brass . These brass Masonic bookends are in great condition with well defined symbolic graphics (see attached photos). According to Wikipedia, Freemasonry is a fraternal organisation that arose from obscure origins in the late 16th to early 17th century. The first Grand Lodge, the Grand Lodge Of England , was founded in 1717 . All Masonic ritual makes use of the architectural symbolism of the tools of the medieval operative stonemason. Freemasons, as speculative masons (philosophical building rather than actual building), use this symbolism to teach moral and ethical lessons of the principles of "Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. I would guesstimate these book ends are from the 1940s or thereabouts and have been well taken care of. It should be obvious that they are a classy, quality item and would make a great gift for a freemason, nomatter the occasion. Or, simply add them to your personal collection/museum. One bookend has the brown felt bottom and on the other bookend, the brown felt is missing. Easily resolved.
