Very old pair of oil lamps that were probably used on a ship at one time or another. They stand about 9 1/2" tall and are about 6" wide at the base. They are made of metal but I'm not sure what type of metal...they do have some green tarnish on them (as often seen on brass and copper) but they also have some surface rust, too. The fronts of the lanterns have a cage-type door that opens to get at the little oil lamps inside. The lamps twist into place to prevent them from falling over. The lamps are about 4 3/4" tall and the glass hurricane is about 2 1/2" tall. The glass hurricane appear as if they were hand made because you can see air bubbles and swirls in the glass itself. The lamp bases are made of metal (again, not sure what type of metal) and each still has a bit of wick in them. The knob that turns up the wick works on both. As you can see in the photo, one of the glass hurricanes is broken at the top and the other one has very tiny chips along the top edge. Each of the lanterns has green glass on one side and red glass on the other but much of the green and red paint has flaked off. T are plenty of vent openings at the top as well as an embossed ships wheel at the top front of each lantern. Both lanterns have metal handles for carrying or hanging up. I do not see any maker's marks or other types of identification on either
