Up for auction is my rare early 70’s Slingerland 3 piece Bop kit (20x14, 14x14, 12x8) with the single lug design and late 60’s hardware. The legendary Pro Drum Shop here in Hollywood told me it was not unusual to see an early 70’s kit with 60’s hardware as many Slingerland shells from the early 70’s were set up with residual hardware from existing stock. This is very presentable player’s kit with only normal wear for a kit of this era. All shells are 3 ply maple with maple re-rings. For some reason the floor tom has a birdseye maple interior! I made a video walk-through of the drums to show them in more detail and to make note of any issues (see below). A few updates: 5/9 - I purchased two things to add to the kit/auction today. 1) a brand new Aquarian American Vintage 14" Thin head for the reso side of the floor tom (photo 12). 2) I also bought an era appropriate frame for the broken muffler on the floor tom which is now fully functional (photo 10). OK Another update - I ADDED A SOUND DEMO: 5/11 - I'm revamping my home studio so it's just a quick and simple 2 mic set up. I'm not a drummer so don't make fun of me please (I play geetar, bayse and piyaner). Tuned up high for Jazz. I pulled the felts away from the heads so you can hear the bass almost completely unmuffled at the start, but the felts cling back to the heads pretty quick so by the end you hear a more muffled exaple of the bass drum. Nice woody vintage tone perfect for traditional jazz. I’ve had these drums for about two years and they have not left my home studio in that time. When I got the kit I cleaned them up a bit and restored the BD hoops by carefully sanding and repainting them (HQ Spray, not brush). The wrap has aged to a nice even creamy white. Overall chrome is in good shape with hardware varying from near perfect to light pitting and rust. The t-rods on the bass drum show some wear and some are chewed up a little bit while others are very nice. Drums don’t smell of smoke or anything like that. For the record a magnet will not stick to the lugs or mounting hardware, but will to the hoops. If there is an issue, I mentioned it. This is a classy looking set and a very presentable player. You get: 20x14 – The bass drum is in great shape, with the exception of a dent to the interior of the drum that I believe happened when it was shipped to me. This dent caused the wrap to crack on the exterior of the drum (see vid). This is however at the bottom of the drum so it faces the ground. It causes no sonic issues and does not effect the integrity of the shell. Interior apart from the ding is very nice. As on all the drums, bearing edges are beautiful. Shell is in the round. Wrap is clean and shinny with only minor wear and one tiny stain that I highlight in the video. Newer coated ambassador batter and 2 Slingerland reso heads (the original reso head (now with large port) and a 1970’s reso head in excellent shape that I picked up later). I bought some nickel plated aluminum washer/spacers for the t-rods as they work better than the original small washers, but I will include the original washers. The batter side hoop has developed a little pedal rash in the two years since I restored them.
