VINTAGE LOG CARRIER Technically, it's not a peavey, I know that, but I didn't know any other name to use to get you to view the item. I'm not sure what the proper name is for the item. This obviously is a two man log hauler/carrier. The hook swivels 360 degrees. One man is positioned at each end. When it's raised, the hooks clamp into the log and gravity does the rest, the heavier the log, the deeper the hooks grab. This one would lift any size log that two men could lift. Totally open, the jaws are 18 inches wide. The handle is 47 inches long. This is a substantial piece of logging equipment and was not used by whimps. This item was used by real men. This carrier was used in the logging industry and has the wear marks to prove it. These carriers were widely used at the turn of the century but you don't see them around too often these days as collectors snag them up very quickly and they're generally only found in the upper midwest and the upper west coast. This one is very solid. The handle appears to be maple. Burnt into the handle is the name "F. ARNTZEN". I'm not sure if this was the maker of the handle or was the owner of the carrier that burnt it in to show ownership. I'm not sure if this handle is original. The handle and head show wear. But at the same time, they have a very nice patina to them. This one would look read more
