“The Spratling of Peru ” … Florentine-born, Graziella Laffi lived and worked in Peru during the 1950’s, producing singular and stunning silver pieces in both modern and pre-Columbian forms. Most aficionados believe that her creations rival the masterworks that came out of Mexico . She is one of today’s hottest collectibles in the field. This sublime, handwrought pin depicts Inti , Inca god of the sun and son of supreme god Viracocha. Believed to be the ancestor of the Incas, his worship was imposed throughout the empire. In fact, his name was considered so sacred that even those permitted to utter it did so soundlessly! , Laffi adds her singular stylized, modernist panache giving Inti a simian-like face, with spiraling, pinwheel rays emanating from it. Laffi’s trademark silver layering, as well as tool- and cutwork, splendidly accentuate the dimension and detail of the deeply convex piece. It makes for fabulous wearable art and will display beautifully in any G. Laffi or Latin American silver collection. Hallmarks : PERU , G.LAFFI ; 925 . DIMENSIONS : 1-5/8” in diameter.
