Peterson’s of Dublin Pipe Up for your consideration is this VINTAGE PETERSON'S of DUBLIN PIPE. The maker’s mark on the left side of the lower stem is a slightly arched Peterson’s Of Dublin with the forked“P”. Under this is the number 3. To the right of the bowl is a very small number that appears to be a 4 or a 7. On the other side of the shank is Made in London England You can see the length of the pipe in the picture. The height of the bowl is 2½” This has an inside diameter of about about 3/4". The outside diameter is about 1 ½”. The bowl is in very good condition and without serious damage! There are NO cracks, hairlines, serious nicks, repairs, or large scratches found on the bowl or bowl stem. There are a few scratches around the rim of the bowl from general use and aging. No cracks or damage was found on the black stem. The stem and stem tip are in good condition considering the age of the pipe. The mouthpiece has some small teeth marks. “The Peterson pipe company in Ireland is known for producing both high quality pipes and excellent tobaccos. You may have heard of "The Peterson System" ? The Peterson pipe is unique in that it is designed to contain an interior reservoir in the shank. This reservoir traps condensed tobacco moisture from the smoke, in turn giving the smoker a cooler and drier smoke. The Peterson System was invented and patented back in 1890. In 1898, Peterson invented the " Peterson Lip " mouthpiece, which directs the smoke up and away from the tongue. The Peterson Lip mouthpiece reduces the amount of saliva entering the stem and provides for a contoured fit in the mouth .” “ From the start of the Patent Era until somewhere in the early 1930s, Peterson used the "Old Style" lettering that used a forked tail "P" in Peterson .” I suspect this pipe was made in the 1940s but I am not sure. Due to its age, this pipe is sold “AS IS”. Please ask all questions before bidding. I am not a pipe smoker but have attempted to find out some information as I have about 35 pipes to post.
