you have a terrific old photo album from the early 1900s , just packed with more than 250 great images . Among them are half a dozen photos showing passengers on the deck of the White Star Line's RMS Olympic , which is (or was) the sister ship of the RMS Titanic . You can see the White Star logo on lifeboats in the background, and one of the photos has been converted into a souvenir postcard, and labeled at the bottom "Sept. 19, 1914 - S.S. Olympic." T's even a photo of one of the ship's officers. Other images depict families, pets, houses, and fascinating long-ago scenes of London , Windsor , Switzerland or Austria (somew in the Alps), and Venice .
25 pages, with photos pasted on the front and back of each page, and even inside the back cover. Somebody really put a LOT of care into assembling this album. Take a look at the scans. The photos are arranged neatly on the pages, and the original owner even cut out the backgrounds in some of them, to create a "silhouette" effect. The photographer was pretty good, too. Some of the photos show a bit of foxing and fading with age, but as you can see from the scans, the vast majority are still in good shape. The pages have wrinkled a bit, either from age or from the glue, but t is no evidence of moisture damage. No mold, mildew, dirt, stains, tears, or other problems. Overall very good condition. The album measures about 8 by 10 inches, with plain black cardboard covers. The pages are that typical black paper that tends to get brittle with age, but they still open easily, and t's only page towards the back that has come loose from the spine. A dab of Elmer's glue will fix that. I noticed only one photo has been torn out of the album, leaving a ragged hole, but everything else is nice and neat. I wonder what was the story behind THAT? All in all it's an amazing portrait of a long-vanished age. Winning bidder pays $9 for USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate shipping, and I will pack it carefully. PayPal preferred , to CONFIRMED ADDRESSES ONLY. If you don't have a confirmed address with PayPal, please take a minute to straighten that out before bidding. Personal checks must clear before I'll mail you the album. Also, if you are new to eBay and have a feedback rating of 10 or less, then I welcome you aboard, but you need to contact me before bidding. International bidders are welcome, but be prepared to pay the additional postage and insurance. Please email me if you have any questions at all about this item, and thanks for bidding. IMPORTANT NOTE : One potential bidder has said he doesn't think the ship pictures I've shown are actually from the Olympic . Two of the photos are clearly labeled at the bottom (as part of the image itself, not something written in by the album owner) "S.S. Olympic." Normally a British ship from this period would be designated "R.M.S." (for "Royal Mail Ship"). Even so, one of the photos clearly shows a lifeboat in the background with the distinctive White Star Line flag on the bow. Another photo shows the ship's bridge in the background, and it certainly resembles photos of the bridge of the Olympic. The shipboard photos are in two separate groups in the album, and it's possible that SOME of the pictures are indeed taken aboard another ship. After all, this album covers a lot of territory, so the people depicted in the photos might have journeyed by more than one vessel. At any rate, if you are bidding on this photo album mainly for the Olympic pictures, if you will send me your email address, I can send you several high-resolution scans of these particular photos, and you can decide for yourself if they are the real thing. Thanks for your interest. - Michael (email: ) FOLLOWUP MESSAGE : Another collector of ocean-liner memorabilia has examined several of the photos closely, and it is his opinion that at least TWO of the im...
