This is another great old photo from one of my late gay uncle's photo albums. This is a picture of a young men's basketball team in 1930 showing Tommy and Duncan with their arms lovingly around each other, back row, on the right. Duncan and Tommy had met two years before and realized a common trait in each other that would bond them for life. Both men were the most popular members of the team. Girls swooned at their handsomeness, gay men always did a double take, even dogs would smile as they licked their muscular hands. The men played by the rules of the times. Straight by day and gay at night, when the two of them studied together, curled up on Duncan's bed or lying side by side on Tommy's bedroom floor, heads pressed against each other, sharing a single book. Duncan and Tommy were similar to many men uncle knew in his younger life - they didn't think they were gay. They were just best buddies who had a total, committed friendship that often included sex if one of the two wanted it. Uncle said often in these pairings, one of the men initiated it and the other went along because it was what his best buddy wanted. More often than not, both men grew to accept and revel in the physical part of the relationship once it got off the ground. Of course today we would say these men were gay but back in those years, t was nothing to compare
