Vintage PIAGET Solid 18K Men's Watch 18 Jewels STUNNING! Cal. 9P1 Piaget Winding rotor Up for sale a rare and in near mint condition 18K yellow gold Mens Piaget Winding machine with special hand finished finish on case, band and dial. Ref. 9131 B 56 214918 Serial # 7290639This very special Mens Piaget features a solid 18k yellow gold, dial gold nuggett design, golden beautifully shaped golden hands. The dial is 100% factory original with incredible hand finished design that can be seen everyw on this timepiece.(also ass a little dent on the band that only with a magnifier 10x you can beraly see it) The case is cushion shaped measuring 7/8" from 12 to 6 and 7/8" accross not counting the crown. The case is brushed and polished caseback being secured with 4 gold screws and elegant gold crown . (One of the screw is not original) The most fascinating feature of this Piaget is the beautifully designed integrated 18K 750 yellow gold band.The weigth 96.9 grams. The band measures from one end to another an astonishing 7 1/2" inches and is very tin 2mm the band, also has several features rarely seen in any timepiece in this style. The band features a hidden clasp which is secured by a flip lock and a quite interesting lock so it may not be opened by anyone other than the wearer. The fliplock is signed beautifully with P accompanying hallmarks The band is in mint condition (very minor wear)with absolutely no tears, broken links or loose band just about!(Only the minor dent on the lock) The quality of craftmanship that was accomplished with this Mens Piaget did not just stop with the dial, case and band but continued with one of the finest movements ever produced by Piaget! This timepiece is powered by the very high grade 18 jewel, 5 position adjusted, Winding rotor, Cal. 9P Piaget movement which had the distinction as being the thinnest automatic movement in the world at the time! As can be clearly seen this movement is in beautifully clean condition and as expected telling exquisite time. This superb timepiece is in near Vintage stock condition with just light scratches seen on caseback and underside of the band. Only rarely is this timepiece ever made available for sale and almost never in this top condition. Piaget & Co. was founded in 1874 by Georges Piaget, a farmer turned watchmaker in the village of La-Cote-aux-Fees, who began assembling watches to earn extra money during the meager winters. Not much is known about the company's early years, except the fact that his sons eventually took over the business and guided their father's company through two world wars and the Great Depression. Prior to World War II, Piaget watches were marketed through other companies, who engraved their own names on the dials. Following World War II, however, the founder's grandsons Gerald and Valentin Piaget took over and embarked on an ambitious plan to give their grandfather's company a stronger identity in the marketplace. A new collection of wristwatches was premiered and caused quite a sensation. The rest, as they say, is history. Foreign markets such as the United States opened up during the 1950s and this led to the establishment of branch offices in New York, Geneva and Germany. It helped that the company introduced a number of innovative movements during this period, such as the ultra-thin nine ligne "9P" movement. This allowed Piaget to create a popular series of elegant, ultra-thin wristwatches for both men and women. Another commercially successful movement was the "12P", which was the world's thinnest automatic watch movement until 1967. During the 1960s, the company bought up several case and bracelet manufacturers. This allowed for strict quality control. Over the next few years, Piaget's market focus changed. The watches themselves took on the appearance of fine jewelry. Dials were available in a number of styles and the materials used became increasingly exotic.
