A beautiful hand appliquéd, hand quilted quilt from the 1930âe(tm)s. T are 9 blocks (15-16 inch blocks) of a flower circle wreath with hand done, close blanket stitches used to apply the motifs. Blanket stitches are less than 1/8 th of an inch apart, sometimes stacked at crucial points. Then the maker stem stitched the veins in the leaves with green thread, and petals in the flowers with pink thread. She also quilted on these lines as well to secure the batting. T are 6 flowers and 6 leaves per block. Each pink flower has a cluster of hand embroidered French knots in the center. Whether on purpose, or because she ran out of green floss, one block has cream stitching on some of the green leaves. I looked at this a lot before I saw it. When I noticed it, my first thought was she did it on purpose, so it would not be perfect. That is an old custom in quilt making. Because only God is perfect, you were to leave a mistake on purpose. Now to the quilting! Wow! T is diamond 1 inch grid quilting all over w t isnâe(tm)t a double feather circle wreath, or as is on the border, a double feather border. And tinyâe¦.. Consistent tiny stitches. Measuring 9 âe" on one side only âe" 9 stitches to the inch, front and back. Iâe(tm)m sure this was all done by one quilter, because it is very consistent.
