Up for auction is a beautiful pair of Pioneer CS-99A’s! The speakers were purchased a few years ago at an estate sale and are in excellent cosmetic condition with only a few minor scratches on the top of each speaker. Both grills are in great condition as well. All drivers are in working condition with no dents or dimples. The only flaw is that the original owner carved his name and social security number into the bottom front portion of the cabinets. You have to squint and bend over to see them, but they are visible if the grills are not on as depicted by the photos. Besides looking wonderful, the sound of these vintage speakers remains unsurpassed today. The speakers have amazing crystal clear highs (non-fatiguing), and excellent bass with high volumes and low distortion. The woofer and the midranges have high quality cambric surrounds, so they won't rot or deteriorate the way foam surrounds do. These speakers employ Pioneer's "FB" pulp material in the woofer and midrange drivers. These pressed cones are made of specialized pulp material that is stiffer and has better damping than standard paper cones. The result is audibly different with solid and deep base that sounds natural and not “boomy.” The midrange presence is outstanding with the characteristics of the "FB" cone material.
