THIS AUCTION IS FOR A BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE PLATINUM AND DIAMOND LADIES CROSBY WATCH WITH 38 DIAMONDS AND A DAINTY FLOWER BAND.
I don't know the age of the watch, but I'm guessing 1940s - 1950s. It came in with an estate parcel of really nice jewelry.
It is a Crosby watch, 17 jewels. The casing says .900 platinum .100 iridium, as you can see. I don't know if the band is platinum or not. The long closure bar on the watch is stamped "Kreisler Quality U.S.A." and under that, "Gold Cont. .025, PAT. 2064760". I'm sure that patent number is for the unusual type of closure on the watch, which you can see in the photos. I wouldn't be surprised if the buckle closure itself was not platinum, but the dainty floral part of the band is. However, I can't be sure about the band.
The watch is beautiful; unfortunately, it's not working. What seems to be wrong with it is that when you try to wind it, the hands move. Maybe that information would help anyone who buys and fixes vintage watches, to know whether it is easily fixed. I do not doubt that this watch can be fixed, because we've had others in our estate store that were in the same condition and sent them out for repair, and they came back working perfectly. So it's up to you--obviously the watch has antique value and is in good condition otherwise, but is being sold as is with no warranty.
When the watch is closed, it measures approximately 6 3/4 inches in diameter.
