This is a Joseph Popping infill rabbet plane with the skewed cutter and rosewood infill in good condition. Joseph Popping was a well known plane maker in New York during the mid 1800's and he specialized in piano makers planes and infills. This plane has his unique cut out design at the throat openings as well as the distinct profile of the sides. This plane is in great user condition and it shows moderate use and the iron is getting a bit short though it has plendy of life left. The sole may have been repaired though I don't know much about Popping's planes or his design of the skewed cutter versions.; I do know the skewed versions are not very common This plane functions perfectly and would look great in any collection of early American planes or infill planes.
