Vintage Pottery Tourist S&P Set, Indian Style, Arizona This set of small clay pottery salt and pepper shakers are individually made with a simple green, red-orange, and lavender decoration outlined in black. There is no glaze over the decoration. Each shaker measures almost 1.5" in diameter and stands about 1.75" tall. There are no stoppers on the bottom of the shakers (and may not have been any originally). The bottom of one of the shakers has written in ink, "Old, Ariz". They are in the style of the Southwest Indian tribes. There is no tribal signature or notation of artisan so I am selling them as Native American style. However, I personally remember (from the many trips our family took along old Route 66-the part commonly called, The Navajo Trail) seeing these exact type of clay painted "trinkets" with these types of decoration in the 1950's and early 1960's for sale at rest stops and restaurants in Arizona and New Mexico, such as Stuckey's. We always assumed they were Indian made for the tourist trade... Anyway, I feel certain that this set is from the 1950's or 60's and is one of the "tourist" pieces from Arizona just as noted on the bottom one of them.
