Here is a unique find. rather primitive-- it is folk art- 6 hand carved solid wood birds some of them have just a bit of wear I see wear on the red wing of one -some of them a bit of a semi shine finish left on them others do not. each of them do have little eyes and the bird is pegged into a carved branch- difficult to tell if it was actually a branch at one time or carved wood- the base does look like the cross section of a branch and the carved pegs that hold birds to tree look tree -like branch parts as well. Each bird is about about 5 inches and the natural rings of the actual wood is part of the birds design - from solid wood the head and the beak and the body are actually carved from one block of wood no parts are glued on with the exception of the peg that holds it to the tree. While each bird is similar no two are identical something is different in the thickness size or design I do beleive each was hand varved and then stained not painted. Again the area that is color stained was decided by the natural ring of the wood- An interesting Art Find- Folk Art and it was from an auction box here in Eastern Pennsylvania, USA.
