this 5 1/2" x 4" and 2 1/4 tall oval box with its copper tacs and stenciling believed to be in its original state. as you see it has a fair amount of crazing from shrinkage.(shrinkage of finish). I have been told this alligatored/shrinkage could have been caused from an extra coat of varnish over the years, but not recently. weight is approx 2 oz. this box is of extremely good quality. the stenciling is of a basket of flowers and ferns. also construction is made of with tiny square pegs or nails . on top right side of lid t appears to be a blemish, some sort of chip under the old varnish but under lid t is no evidence of this as seen in pictures. two copper tacs are used to fasten band around lid, with four tiny square pegs or nails. and two copper tacs are used to fasten side to bottom plus four tiny square pegs. this is a great tiny box and is positively 19th century, enjoy bidding.
