VINTAGE PULLMAN PASSENGER TRAIN CONDUCTOR'S "STEP"; one of the more wonderful and unique collectibles from the romantic era of train travel by Pullman car! This original Pullman step is in great original condition; the only things lacking are the original rubber pads on the feet of the step, and those are relatively easy to replace; step constructed of steel, very fine design, weighs 10 1/2 lbs; has original silver painted surface; top is anti-skid; dimensions are: top, 12 3/4 " by 7 3/4"; overall height is 9 3/4"; and the base is 17 1/2" by 12 1/2"; probably manf'd in Pullman's own shops; the underside features a storage bin for the conductor's dust rags, etc; I don't know the exact era of this step; the first Pullman cars were built in 1859 (44 ft long, half of later cars!), and were built up through the 1950s; by 1929, 8,842 Pullman cars were operating and served 33,434,268 happy passengers; my guess is that this step would have entered service no earlier than the 1930's; if only this step could talk! I can't imagine a more "uplifting" AND useable railroad collectible (in the kitchen?)! Genuine Pullman steps are also rather rare; this very durable example of railroad history should provide an important "step up" to your collection! I will provide winning bidder with PayPal invoice that includes fees for packaging and shipping; read more
