This auction is for one of the matched pair of kerosine railroad lanterns shown on the attached pictures. They came from a caboose. The other item is also listed by seller. $5 shipping combined shipping discount if the same party wins both lanterns. Both are identical. The lantern says ARMSPEAR MFG CO New York on one side of the top. The opposite side has 6 linesof patent and license info which is readable but more than I want to type. The dates are at the first part of the 1900's. Above the mounting plate reads L&NRR and below that it says ARMSPEAR 28A. T are 4 heavy duty glass lenses - two read ones and two amber yellow ones. The lantern includes the brass plate that was attached to the caboose that the lantern mounts on. It weighs over 17 pounds is almost 12 inches tall and ten inches wide. Shipping to United States and Canada only. As you can see, I have two of these lanterns for sale. They both came from the estate of an 87 year old friend who passed away recently. This weekend I carefully examined both lanterns and found two things that I should mention on one of the two lanterns. Both pertain to the second lantern listed - not the first one. 1. Inside the lantern t is a kerosene container with a wick. The one in the second lantern is apparently not the original. It fits ok but instead of saying Armspear it says The Adams Lake Company. Because of this the wick adjustment does not work as it should. It could easily be made to do so. 2. The metal ring that holds one of the lenses in place has been reenforced with a small, hardly noticable piece of copper wire. I assume this is because something was weak but I do not know. Neither of these affect the appearance of the lanterns but are items that the bidder should be aware of. Again, this does not apply to this lantern - only the second one.
