's what the Randall website has to say about a current production Model 18 knife:

Model 18 "Attack and Survival" -- 5 1/2" and 7 1/2" blades of 1/4" stock. Sawtooth edge on top. Approx. 4 3/4" stainless steel tubular handle, 1" diameter, silver soldered to 1/4" oblong brass hilt, fitted with removable, threaded brass butt cap and waterproof "O" ring. (See detail above.) Flared holes in top and bottom of hilt accommodate wrist thong and facilitate placement of rod for conversion to spear. (Name etching, stainless steel, knurled handle and compass only extra features available.)

My summary: this is an older, very interesting Randall model 18 and black Johnson roughback sheath for consideration. The photos are accurate and were just taken a couple of days ago -- this is a really nice package with a few interesting features. 's a detailed description of what you're looking at: Randall model 18 with a 7-1/2" tool steel blade, row of 24 big sawteeth, double brass hilt drilled for lanyards, smooth hollow handle (for storage of survival items / mini-mag light, etc.) and a straight-lined brass butt cap with long threads. The blade exhibits no use and appears to have the factory edge. The blade has a really nice Randall stamp as shown in photos 7, 8 and 9. Very minimal handling on the hilt and handle -- tarnish/patina that I didn't mess with. Noteworthy is the attachment of the blade / tang through the guard -- it passes through higher than most which leaves the guard longer at the lower end. I've only seen a few like this and believe this to be somewhat uncommon. The straight lined, long threaded butt cap is in excellent condition -- again, with tarnishing and patina similar to that on the guard.
The sheath is a well preserved black Johnson roughback in excellent+++ overall condition that has been pre-punched for rivets. Typical "in sheath" storage one would expect when the knife has been stored in the sheath a bit over the years. (see photo 7) While not excessive, t is a line at the throat and a bit of verdigris build up on the keeper strap. All stitching is tight -- the keeper strap is solid -- the snaps work perfectly. In the pouch you'll find a two tone Combination Crystolon stone with yellow print that reads "Combination Crystolon Made In U.S. of A. The back of the sheath is in excellent condition and exhibits little or no carry wear. One lanyard included -- I don't believe it's the original although I could be mistaken. As photographed, a new Randall Made Knives carry case is included.

All said and done, this is an original, rare Randall model 18 and Johnson roughback sheath in a condition that should compliment most any knife collection. Good luck.
