You are bidding on a very rare pair of spurs circa 1880-1910 and most likely from the Southwest Border area. Spurs are unmarked as to maker or owner, but very eloquent in their execution and with no repairs. Spurs are double mounted, perfectly matched, with fully inlaid shanks and heelbands, double jingle bobs, extra large ten pointed rowels (3&1/2 inches in diameter), etc. Heelbands measure approx 3&1/4 inches in width and are provided with heel chains. Shanks have a small chap guard and even the spur buttons have inlays. Spur leathers are probably a replacement considering the age of these spurs, but they are themselves quite old. These spurs as shown in the photos weigh approx 1&3/4 lbs (for the pair). We have had these spurs for over 15 years and prior to that they were in a well known California collection. We have had them appraised by several knowledgeable dealers who say they are original, period, untouched, and very valuable ($2,000. plus category). Tfore we warranty the originality of these spurs - including age - without reservation. We shall put them to auction with a low starting point and let the market determine the value. THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION AS ARE ALL OF OUR AUCTIONS. |
