Description: These 2 volumes are the Mate's Log for the S. S. Galewood, and cover her second voyage. Starting with departure from San Francisco on August 26, 1930, to her return to S.F on January 29, 1931. This voyage was mainly to the South Pacific, stopping in a number of exotic ports such as Fanning Island (Kiribati), Tahiti, and Tarawa. I've included pictures of a couple of the more interesting entries; t are others describing running aground and cargo damage issues. The Ship: The Galewood was your basic Tramp Steamer. She was built by Manitowoc Shipbuilding, of Manitowoc, WI as part of a WW I shipbuilding program and launched in 1919, after the War ended. Her engines were triple expansion steam, similar to the design adopted for the WW II Liberty Ships. She "Burned and sank" on December 23, 1943 near the Aleutian Islands according to one source. The First Mate: This log was kept by H. T. Danielson. I couldn't find any reliable information about him. T was a Corporal H. T. Danielson who served in WW I, and received a medal for his work in the "Intervention War" when Allied troops were sent to Russia in an attempt to stop the Bolsheviks, but I can't be certain this was the same individual. Condition: Check the pictures and note the scuffing on the cover and spine. The pages and writing are in good condition and completely readable. The cover of the first volume seems to have had some dampness, but no real water damage. I'm only an amateur historian, and have limited research capabilities. If you're interested in doing your own research, send me your E-mail address and I'll send you more information including my sources. Guaranteed to be authentic and as shown in the pictures.
