The Wallace China Co. of southern California was founded in 1931, specializing in vitrified heavy-grade hotel and restaurant china, and was liquidated in 1964. This big, heavy bowl is the largest size they produced; it measures 6" tall and 11 3/4" across the top rim. The transfer-printed decoration is the burgundy version of their Hibiscus pattern, and it's very evenly applied on the bowl's exterior. It has the typical black inkstamp on the underside and contains a date code of '6-S', which indicates it was made in June of 1951. Condition is excellent -- no chips, cracks, breaks, nicks, flakes, stains or other damage / problems. Signs of normal use include a few utensil marks on the bottom of the interior - only visible when the bowl is held in just the right light - plus the typical 'slide wear' on the bottom rim, common on heavy vintage pieces.
