Set of 4 Original PollockSling Lounge Chairs Designed for Knoll Associates You are bidding on an excellent set of 4 leather sling lounge chairs (number 657) designed by Charles Pollock for Knoll Associates (see below for more info on Pollock and Knoll). These chairs were purchased and owned by a sculptor who was an esteemed alumna of Cranbrook Academy of Art. Florence Knoll studied at Cranbrook along with many famous modern designers (see below for more info on Cranbrook ). Inspired by her years at Cranbrook the sculptor, on whose behalf I'm selling these chairs, collected a number of Knoll chairs which I'll be selling over the next few weeks. This is a great opportunity to own a complete set of 4 original Pollock sling lounge chairs. These chairs were designed in 1960 and were manufactured by Knoll between 1964-1979. This chair was the first Pollock designed for Knoll. The Knoll model number for them is 657 and due to the popularity of the chairs they were often simply referred to as "657". The legs are made of tubular steel. The arms and stretchers are made of cast aluminum, coated with plastic. The back sling is made with a tan saddle leather and the foam cushion is covered with soft, black capeskin leather. The dimensions are 25" wide, 26" deep, and 27 ¾" high. These chairs are amazingly comfortable to sit on. They all have the original Knoll stickers on them. These are the original chairs and not contemporary reproductions. Overall they are in very good condition and just show normal wear for their age. The Cranbrook sculptor cherished them and treated them well. The foam rubber in two of the cushions has perished (normal for pieces this age) and needs to be re-stuffed, the other two are fine. These cushions are held on by velcro and when you remove the cushions you can see that t has been some fading in the brown leather (see photo). T are a few small cracks on the leather w it rolls and t are a some small scuff marks. The leather on the seat cushions is worn a little on some of the chairs and on some it appears more of a very dark brown rather than black. One chair does have a 3" rip on the back (see photo) as well as a few scratches near the tear. This is not uncommon and can be easily repaired. Again, overall the chairs are in very good condition. Not only are they comfortable to sit in but everything on them feels soft and smooth - from the leather to the arm rests. This is a fabulous set of chairs!
Don't miss this opportunity to own an important piece of modern American design. It is rare that a set of four sling chairs are offered at once. Shipping or pickup location is Seattle , Washington . ________________________________________________________________ Pollock Charles Pollock was born in Philadelphia in 1930. The leather model number "657" (the design being offered in this auction) was so successful that he further developed it to create the famous "Pollock-Chair", the best selling executive chair in the history of office furniture design. The Pollock Chair was first introduced in 1965 and now has a place of honor in the Louvre museum in Paris . Knoll Knoll was founded in 1938 and has been recognized as a design leader worldwide.
