Vintage Reuge 8 Octave Music Box Movement 2 Melodies

DESCRIPTION

This is an outstanding music box movement from the Reuge firm of Sainte Croix Switzerland. Reuge is the premier maker of high end music box movements in the world.

The movement plays Lara's Theme from Dr. Zhivago and Eidelweiss. I don't know the age of the movement, but it was obviously made after 1965, the years of the two movies from which the songs were taken.

FEATURES and CONDITION The music box movement is new old stock. It came from a recent estate sale, and it was in the original plastic bag from 20 years ago with the $25 price tag still on it. The former owner was a hobbiest, and I guess he planned to make a music box for this, but never got around to it. The movement is on a 1/4 inch thick solid brass base. The movement has about 40 pins, which translates to 8 octaves! The movement has a lever on the front. When tripped, the lever allws the movement to play one song and then stop. When tripped again, the other song plays, and so forth. When held in your hand, the movement is very quiet and difficult to hear. When the movement is placed on a table or board, the music fills the room. Unlike most music boxes, all the metal reeds are not flat. The longer, lower tone reeds have precicesly machined ends that provide the proper thickness and resonation for their respective notes. This is something found only on expensive movements. The key is removeable. T are three mounting holes in the base. They are threaded. For its size, this is as good as a music box movement gets!
