This is a Vintage Rigid Fixed Blade Skinning Knife. Features full tang blade for delicate skinning or heavy duty work. Handcrafted in Santee California of 440 "C" stainless steel tested to register between 58 and 60 on the Rockwell "C" hardness scale. This knife is from the Wilderness Series of knives. This is the R8 - Caribou. Designed for the Professional Hunter and Guide. This is a very rugged handmade knife. Knife alone weighs in at 10 oz. Finger-grooved slab handles are of exotic hardwood with solid guards and brass bolsters. Knife comes with original heavy duty top grain leather sheath with five brass rivets and brass snap. Sheath is in excellent used condition. Sheath has scratches and tarnish on rivets but is solid and functional with no rips or tears and snap is intact and works. Belt loop also is in good working order. Knife measures in at 9 3/4" in overall length with the blade measuring 5 " from tip to guard. I would rate the knife Excellent+ used condition. Brass guard has a very small knick on the left side. Rear Brass Bolster on the left side also has several pin sized marks (may not show up well in photo) on the rear edge and Right Bolster has a small (ball point pen point) mark on the side Blade has small faint scratches if you hold it in the light. I can not tell if it was sharpened or not. Blade is smooth and sharp. This knife is made in the U. S. A .!!! The only thing stamped on the blade is the R I G I D over USA shown in the pictures.
